You are likely to be told by your doctor that heartburn is caused by the foods that you eat and can be worsened through stress. This is very true and it offers you the ability to stop the heartburn before it really starts to hurt you. Out of every 100 patients that suffer from heartburn, 95 of them will know what is causing their heartburn before they get to their doctor. If you know what is causing your heartburn, you are able to stop it from hurting and destroying your quality of life. But, if you do not, you can easily learn about it.

For most individuals, foods are the main trigger for heartburn. Those that find themselves struggling with heartburn may not know which foods it is though. To learn this, plan a journal in which you will record all of the foods that you have consumed for the next several days or weeks. The longer that you do this tracking the more thorough your results will be. Make sure to mark down the days that you experience heartburn, when it occurs and its level of intensity. Rate the intensity on a scale of 1 -10. By recording this information, you will be able to see which foods are triggering your heartburn.

One thing to note, though, is that some foods that you eat may actually be causing you more harm than others. You should include this in your heartburn tracking as it can help you to see what the worst foods for you to consume are. These are likely to be the foods that you should avoid altogether. When you know what your heartburn trigger is, you’ll be able to see what you should do to treat your heartburn as well. Taking the time to do this tracking is insignificant than the results that you will have. Knowing what causes your heartburn is essential.
